Let’s face it, I’m an amateur birder. However, I am a very excited amateur birder! I have always found birds intimidating because they often change color patterns between juveniles and adults as well as males and females.
I have found that photography acts as a wonderful medium to study birds. Moreover, if I have not identified a bird that I observed in nature, I can often identify it later from the photograph. Since I am still an amateur, I am only working on a 200mm lens. Maybe in time, I will upgrade my lens!
Here you will find birds from many habitats across the United States. It will lean more heavily on the western United States because I usually thru-hike and travel in the van primarily out west. Eventually, when international travel ramps back up again, I hope to expand my journal to include species from all over the globe.
I ask that you do not underestimate some of the common birds that we can see in our own backyards. If we can find joy in our everyday spaces because we know familiar faces, we can expand our ecological knowledge and help our one and only planet.
